The Process of an Asphalt Driveway.

Updated: Mar 20

If you're planning on installing a new driveway, one option that you may be considering is an asphalt driveway for commercial or residential. Not only is asphalt a durable and long-lasting material, but it's also affordable compared to other options like concrete. On average an Asphalt Driveway installation is 30-40% cheaper than a concrete driveway. The first step in the process of installing an asphalt driveway is to prep the site. This involves removing any existing driveway materials or other obstacles and adding in drainage where it’s needed. Once the site is prepared, a base layer of crushed rock is spread over the area, wet down and compacted with a steel drum roller. This base layer helps to provide additional stability and support, resulting in longevity of the Asphalt. This then needs to cure over an average of a week to allow the rock to become solid creating a hard base. Failing to do so will result in Asphalt cracking, moving and not compacting properly. Finally a layer of the chosen thickness and Asphalt will be Laid for long lasting Results.
